Dear Expectant Dreamer…

The struggles that women go through are no secret. The journey to success for a woman is not a stroll in the park. Tears will be shed, accusations will be carelessly thrown towards them, discouragement will become the norm of the day…the list is endless. Be that as it may, the assumption that women understand each other’s hustle better than men do and will, therefore, be more supportive is farfetched.

I have heard so many testimonies of women who have been let down by other women. Those who have already made it are either too busy and have no time for anyone else, or somehow feel that associating with women of a lower socioeconomic class will cramp their style, so they’d rather be selective about who gets the privilege of making their acquaintance.

It’s sad how so many dreams have never seen the light of day because the dreamer did not receive the support she was expecting. Many dreams barely make it beyond that “yawn” because the dreamer didn’t believe they could make it without the support of someone they looked up to as a mentor. You don’t need others to validate your dream. Work until you get the results you are aiming to achieve.

Truth be told, you are the only one standing in the way of your own success. The struggles you will face will make you stronger. If others can achieve their dreams, so can you. Forget any setbacks coming your way and rise with uncompromising abandon. This is your dream. Live it to the fullest, with or without them. You are capable and more than enough. Let go of the expectations you have of other people because, unfortunately,  most will disappoint you.
