To date, I’ve lived up to the expectations of the woman I envisioned myself to be almost three decades ago. I certainly had no idea that I would stick to that dream, but I did anyway. What I did was remember the woman I had set out to become.
It’s funny how I had it all figured out, from the stages I was going to grace, the style of fashion I would gravitate to, to the kind of boyfriend I was going to date. When I would speak about my dreams, no one was moved. To them, I was just a little girl who was probably watching too many fairy tales.
With time, I was expected to grow out of my fairy tales and step into reality. Instead, the little girl who had a dream matured into a woman with a vision. When I look back, my life becomes a little easier today knowing that the woman I am so longing to be is beyond my imagination. I am the future me only if I give myself a chance.
When I think of my tomorrow, I am motivated to be the master of my destiny. I can’t just walk into tomorrow as if I am taking a stroll in the park and let the road lead me to any destination.
If I forget anything else, may I never forget the future me I am defining today. When tomorrow eventually comes, may I look back to this day and be grateful that I fulfilled my dream. And may I be someone else’s proof that dreams do come true.
Let nothing stop you from dreaming. This is your life, so let no one be your yardstick. There can only be one you. Take us with you on the wildest of adventures until you become your own source of inspiration. And for the record, dreams have no age.
