Wounds Aren’t Meant to Bleed Forever

Whenever a sharp object cuts through the skin and punctures a vein or artery, blood oozes out. The amount of blood oozing out is determined by the depth and location of the cut. If the cut is superficial, the bleeding will be minimal. If a major blood vessel is cut, the bleeding will be substantial.

Tiny cuts only bleed when pressure is applied. Deep cuts bleed profusely. But the bottom line is that all cuts hurt – some more than others. Regardless of the magnitude of the cut, blood creates a mess and taints everything it comes into contact with.

The immediate need is to control the bleeding.

In response, the body forms clots. But, before the wound begins to heal, the body is vulnerable to bacteria, which can potentially lead to an infection.

Soon a scab appears over the cut, protecting the delicate area until new skin can permanently seal the cut…because wounds aren’t meant to bleed forever.

Once the new skin forms and strengthens, the scab finally falls off. But the bruised area is still tender and still hurts when pressure is applied. What is noticeable is that the newly formed skin looks different from the rest of the skin – in colour and texture.

When we get wounded in life, we bleed. Sometimes it’s a minor disappointment and we can dust it off and keep it moving. It’s not that deep, the person who hurt us is not that close to us, so the hurt isn’t substantial.

But then there are deep cuts that pierce right through the heart, and the pain is uncontainable.

The pain that gushes out from our hurting soul doesn’t only splash all over our lives, it stains everything and everyone we come into contact with. Sometimes we only stain people when we’re under pressure, other times our wounds bleed so profusely that the pain in our heart spills out uncontrollably and unprovoked, hurting even the people we love.

Dear Sis, you may be hurting now, but your wound isn’t meant to bleed forever…

The first thing God does when life injures you is control the bleeding. He’ll do this by sending people to support you, to help absorb the pain and to prevent your heart from bleeding out.

Then, while you’re still in shock and trying to piece things together, He’ll cover you with His love to protect you from going into life-threatening shock. He’ll do this by giving you peace and the strength to endure the pain. You’ll be very vulnerable at this point because the enemy will try to penetrate your mind with doubts that question God’s goodness. But as long as you keep dressing our wounds daily with Scripture and prayer, you can prevent the enemy from infecting your mind.

As time passes, you’ll begin to heal, and a new layer of strength will begin to form where you once hurt. Just like the scab protecting the wound as it heals must fall off, those who rushed to your side to aid you now fall back. This is by design. The new tender skin must breathe and strengthen by being exposed to the elements of everyday life. Though the area surrounding the cut is still tender and hurts when pressed, it’s getting stronger by the day.

An area once wounded will never look or feel the same. It has to stand out to remind you that even though you felt like the pain would kill you, and the enemy tried to infect your spirit, God covered you and carried you to a place of strength and healing.

Congratulations Sis, you stopped bleeding…
