People talk about flowers and their seasons in relation to a woman’s life. Every decision a young woman makes is too often accompanied by the following reminder:
“Remember you are a girl and you will soon wither. You can forgo these other things for now…”
“This is not the time for you to be furthering your education. Why don’t you settle down first then you can talk about education…”
“If you do not get married now then you may never be married. Besides, the more educated you become the more men will be intimidated by you…”
I’ve heard such advice countless times.
[ctt template=”5″ link=”4x03w” via=”no” ]Women are often told to prioritize marriage above any other dream. The biological clock that every gynecologist talks about adds even more pressure. Then insecurities creep in and begin to rule their lives.[/ctt]
As a result, many women have deviated from their original plans, dreams and aspirations to please others and meet society’s expectations. They’ve settled down in marriages they were not ready for and have no idea what happiness feels like because they were pressured into making a bad decision.
The moment we live our lives according to what other people think, we become as good as puppets. They have no idea of the battles we are fighting and the things we want to achieve. So what if you are not ready for marriage yet and you decide to focus on school first? Does it make you a withered flower?
Different types of flowers bloom in different seasons, but bloom nonetheless. As a matter of fact, there are some flowers that that don’t produce any petals, but an extraordinary eye will still acknowledge their beauty.
