Anytime a road is in need of repair or is otherwise deemed unfit for use, a detour sign is used to redirect traffic.
The cause for a detour isn’t always apparent. Sometimes a road is closed due to construction. Other times the reason is an accident or natural disaster. Whether the cause is known or not, having to diverge from your preferred route when you least expect it is frustrating, especially when what you want is right in front of you – so close you can almost touch it!
When there’s a detour, the only people who can access the blocked off area are those involved in the roadwork, and those accessing the local area. Simply put, only people who have direct business in that particular area are permitted.
The last thing you want to see when you’re driving, especially when you are in a hurry, is a blocked road. When you’re unfamiliar with the area, a closed road can really throw you off.
The reason why most people get so upset with being forced to take an alternate route is because they are not prepared for it. Maybe they have no extra time to spare, or perhaps they only have enough gas in their tank to get them so far.
The good thing about taking a detour is that you discover new avenues that you never knew. You find a different path to get to your destination.
It’s hard to see others access something you want badly with no struggle at all. Sometimes it’s difficult to understand why the detour only seems to apply to you, while others have not barriers blocking them from their Point B.
It’s discouraging when you have to take the long route, and your Point A and Point B seem thousands of miles apart. But I’ve learned to appreciate the detours in my life. They are never pleasant in the moment, but when I look back, I always realize that I gained more than I lost.
A detour may seem like a setback, but it’s not. There are some experiences along your current path that don’t need to be a part of your journey because they will be detrimental to you in the long run. It may not be apparent to you now, but you’ll realize it later.
This may be frustrating; you may not have planned or anticipated it; it may throw you completely off your course, but detours serve an important purpose.

There are some lessons you will learn that you would never have learnt if you hadn’t been detoured. There are some new things that you will discover about God and about yourself that will be priceless.
