Matthesa Gregg is the friend everyone needs. She’s loyal, supportive, and genuinely celebrates those around her. We’ve been friends for 18 years, and she has enriched my life in many ways. She’s a go-getter, and I admire her strong sense of self and her positive nature. So, naturally, I approached her and asked if she would be willing to share what she has grown to embrace about herself.
What is something about yourself that you once wished you could change, but you now embrace as part of you?
I wasn’t crazy about my post-baby body, particularly the shape of my tummy. I had two C-sections, and when you have a C-section, they cut through your abdominal muscles, so it’s that much harder to get your stomach looking like it did before. Not that I’ve ever had a flat stomach, never did; but a C-section gives the stomach more of a “pooch shape” than women who’ve had natural births.
What was the turning point?
I find lately, within the last six to nine months, I’m starting to accept it more. I think turning 40 has turned the page for me in that regard. I’m starting to see it as part of my body. It’s a badge of honour.
I brought two wonderful souls into the world with this body, and they came from that tummy.
