The show is about to begin and the audience is silent. Though they’re from different walks of life they all gather under one roof to see the same performance.
Some arrived early while others snuck in just before the doors closed. It doesn’t matter who they are, they have all made a conscious decision to be here, now. Someone may be there to escape a deep pain, even if only for a moment. Another is there to satisfy a passion for the arts. Perhaps another is a scout looking for new talent, desperately hoping to discover the next big star. And then there is one who is there because he has nowhere else to go.
For two hours, the audience sits and watches in great awe and amazement at the mastery of art. It speaks to each individual in a different way. Some are excited and thoroughly entertained, while others are moved to tears as memories and emotions rush to the surface.
For two hours, the audience gets a glimpse of the creativity of a foreign mind – just a glimpse. As they sit in their comfortable seats, they can’t see the months or years it took to bring this production to the stage.
They didn’t witness all the challenges, disappointments and struggles that this creative team encountered, and ultimately overcame, in order for the show to come together. The audience is oblivious to the fact that the dancer to the far left is dancing with a broken toe, nor do they know that the creator of the show just lost his mother the day before opening night.
The audience has no idea of all the chaos going on backstage as they sit in awe. They don’t know that the original director quit mid-production. They are unaware that the very theatre they sit in was flooded due to a leaking pipe two weeks ago. They cannot see the many nights the producer stayed up, overseeing all aspects of this production, while they slept like babies. No one knows exactly what it took to get this show ready for an audience except the one who was involved every step of the way and behind the scenes .
If you had a backstage pass to your own life, you would see all the chaos that God had to manage in order for you to receive each blessing you now enjoy. Because you only see a glimpse, you don’t know how many years of work it took for God to prepare that one blessing that pleasantly surprised you just at the right time.
You don’t realize that you had to wait so long for that other particular blessing because the original person God sent to deliver you quit before they got to you. You are unaware that the one who is supporting you in your pain right now had to first endure a similar heartache in order to qualify to bring healing to your life. You don’t know that the one who is such a blessing to you today is serving you while nursing a broken heart.
One day you will see. One day it will all make sense. Just because you cannot see what God is doing doesn’t mean He isn’t doing anything.
He is, you just can’t see it because you have an audience view. Change your perspective and remember that your life is a masterpiece that is unfolding. Sit back and enjoy the production.
