Have you ever wondered why people will sometimes push you into doing something you strongly feel is far from what you’ve ever envisioned for yourself? Many people have nervously explored uncharted territory and discovered that this new venture is what they were looking for all along.
Some may think it strange to continuously explore new possibilities, but the one thing I have learnt in this life is to be deaf to any sentiments that have any potential of pulling me down, or dimming my light. Never be rigid when it comes to securing a place for yourself in this competitive world.
This reminds me of the day I received what I deemed to be “a strange call” when I received it. At the time, it really sounded strange because I was asked to do something I had never done before. The task was to decorate a venue for a very huge event. What didn’t make sense was why the person who called me trusted me without any point of reference. I’d never done anything of the sort before. I told them I couldn’t do it, but they insisted and sounded desperate. I ended up taking the job. I had just one demand: a total lockdown of the place with no interruptions until I was done.
It took me a while, but eventually I found my way around the flowers, table cloths, pins, and much more. I knew I had put my all into the job, and it turned out to be everything and more than what they were looking for.
This was the day I earned the title of interior designer, and soon jobs started lining up!
Someone once told me, “When you are called to do a job, trust the caller. They know what they have seen in you. Don’t be afraid to start anything new in your life. You are never too old to explore new channels. It’s better to fail after trying your best than to miss out on what could possibly be your biggest breakthrough.”
Such advice changed my life and I’ve never turned back since that day.
