Keep reading to learn some interesting facts about the woman behind the ministry.

Q: What was your favourite toy as a kid?

What else other than Barbie? I had to have Barbie. That was my favourite toy.

Q: What is your favourite meal?

Ooh, that’s a tricky question. Honest to God, my favourite meal is macaroni and cheese with some stewed chicken. That is my favourite meal.

However, I don’t eat chicken anymore, so that’s where it gets complicated. As a backup, let’s go with fish. I love salmon. So I would say, since I don’t eat chicken anymore, some salmon with maybe some lentils and white rice.

And I don’t like vegetables. I have to eat them, so I eat them, but I don’t love them.

Q: When did you stop eating chicken?

I stopped eating chicken in 2005. About 21 years ago. I stopped eating it because I ate it too much. I ate chicken until I could not digest it anymore. It would cause me heartburn, so I had to let it go.

Q: What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

Surprise! I am a lefty. I’m left-handed.

And also, I don’t eat with a fork. I eat with a spoon. That’s just the way I am. A spoon does it all for me!

Too bad I’m sharing this with the world because I actually do grooming classes and teach people how to eat at the table. But that’s one little thing.

Q: What is your favourite beauty product?

My favourite beauty product—and it’s actually become a statement in my videos—is my lip gloss! I don’t leave home without it. I have about four of the same lip gloss, one in each purse.

So my lip gloss, hands down. And if you watch some of my videos, I actually start by putting on lip gloss.

Q: What is a typical day like for you?

A typical day for me right now, in between jobs, starts with going to bed. I go to bed around 3 a.m. Last night, I went to bed around 5 a.m., so that’s pretty typical.

I’ll wake up around noon. My husband and I pray and discuss the day. What are we eating today? What are we doing today? This morning it was: Are we going to exercise today? Are we going to walk today?

We normally walk every day.

But before I get out of bed, something interesting happens. The Holy Spirit wakes me up just about every morning around 6:37 a.m.

Sometimes I’m tired and just want to go back to bed, so I’m not going to lie—sometimes I do. But typically, I wake up and do my Bible study by myself. I’ll talk to God, pray, pray over my husband, pray over my family and friends, and then I’ll go back to sleep.

When I get up, I’ll have a bowl of cereal or something and then start making phone calls. I’ll look at my calendar, see what needs to be done, where we’re going, and get ready for the day ahead.

I’ve been working on the upcoming pageant and other church ministries, so I set aside time during the day to work on flyers, call people, and organize the events I’m planning.

Then I’ll start thinking about dinner and cooking while my husband is doing his thing with his ministry and church.

We’ll get back together around 6 or 7 in the evening. If we need to visit a church member, we’ll do that.

Lately, Ayana has been coming over once a week to get help and mentoring with her nursing skills. We did it last night, and we’ll do it again tomorrow night. It may actually become twice a week.

I also have other women I do one-on-one coaching with, so I’ll look through my calendar and see what appointments I have.

We usually eat dinner around 7 or 8, and then I don’t really watch television. That’s not a thing for me. I definitely do video blogs and TikTok videos, so I do social media. I’ll put up some posts and maybe look at what’s happening on social media.

I also watch a lot of YouTube. There’s a lady I watch named Miss Kitty. Her videos are very inspirational. I watch a lot of inspirational videos as well.

So, in a nutshell, right now, in between jobs, that’s life in the day of Cindel.

Q: It sounds like your day really starts in the afternoon. Do you generally avoid making appointments in the morning?

That is correct. Although if I need to do something like a doctor’s appointment, I’d rather go early and get it over with. But for live conversations like this, no. I usually tell people, Don’t call me before noon.

I’ve never been a morning person. Ever, ever.

I worked as a registered nurse for 13 years on night shift, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. I would go to bed around 8 a.m. Even now that I’m not working night shift, I still go to bed in the wee hours of the morning.

So I’m not a morning person. Like I said, God wakes me up. I pray, and then I go back to sleep.

Q: If you could spend a day with someone famous, who would you choose and why?

Jennifer Hudson.

I still want Jennifer Hudson to be at my wedding, and actually this year we’re doing a renewal of our vows. So, Jennifer Hudson, where are you?

I love Jennifer Hudson. I’ve never met her, but I would love to meet her. I just love her demeanor.

I watched Dreamgirls, and I think her role in that movie reminded me a lot of myself. I’ve watched that movie at least 20 times. I know all the lines from beginning to end.

I really love Jennifer Hudson because I feel like she’s real. I feel like she’s transparent. She has a big personality, and I have a big personality too. She’s fun, and of course, she can blow the roof off with her voice.

So, someday, I’m hoping to meet Jennifer Hudson.

Q: What is your least favourite household chore?

That’s easy. My least favorite chore is folding clothes.

Oh my gosh! As we speak, there’s laundry being washed, and there’s a pile of clothes in the room. I don’t know why, but I despise folding clothes. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

I love doing housework. I love cleaning. I won’t say I love cooking, but I have a husband now, so I love cooking and making sure he eats.

I love doing laundry. I love separating the clothes. I love washing them. I love all of it.

I just hate folding clothes. I don’t know why.

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve?

My biggest pet peeve is greedy people.

I don’t like people who drain me—people who constantly ask and take. I don’t mind sharing. I love to share. But there are people who drain and don’t care about helping other people.

That really, really, really irks my nerves because I’m such a giving person. I feel like everybody needs to give as well.

And again, I’m not talking about people who ask when they genuinely need something. I’m a giver. I just don’t like people who make themselves scarce when you need something. They never offer to help. It’s always give, give, give.

There are certain characters and personalities that are like that. I just feel like it’s a drain. They pull me down, and they don’t help me up. They just pull and pull and pull until I have nothing else to give, and they’re okay with that.

I feel like relationships are two-way.

Q: What do you hate most about adulting?

Wow, that’s an interesting question.

I think it’s being able to budget, maintain finances, and maintain the household.

One of the dysfunctions I had before my transformation in Christ was spending. I was very, very dysfunctional in that behaviour.

I would put aside rent money, but then I’d go to the store and see a nice dress, and I’d use the rent money. Then I’d say, “Oh, I’ll just ask my brother for $100 to replace it for the rent.”

I used to be very, very dysfunctional with that.

I’m a spender, and that may be a stronghold. Y’all pray for me! Like I said, God has been working on me.

From the time I was a child, my mom would give me an allowance, and I’d go straight to the store and spend it. Nothing went into the bank.

I’ve carried that into adulthood. I’ve come a long way, of course. I don’t spend money that’s needed for utilities, but my struggle has been spending on my wants instead of putting money aside to save.

So that’s been one of my biggest struggles as an adult.

Q: Do you feel like God is also teaching you something through that?

I do. I feel like God is testing us as well.

I feel like there’s so much more He wants to give, but He’s asking me, Will you be a steward of what I’m giving you?

That’s something I’m praying about—for me to be more accountable with what God is blessing me with right now, so that He can make me ruler over other things that He wants to bless me with.

That’s a big thing for me.

Q: What are you most proud of?

Oh wow. I mean, this right here [ministry].

I love being obedient to the path, and I pray daily that God will continue to use me as a vessel.

My number one desire—if you don’t see me again on this side of the earth, my ultimate desire is to be saved in God’s kingdom and to bring as many people as I possibly can with me.

So just this. Just praying that this will impact a life, some lives, is huge for me.

I [once wanted to end it all]. I didn’t think I would live to see today.

So just me being here, not [eliminating myself], not going into that deep spiral, and allowing God to use me in this capacity—that is one of my biggest accomplishments.

And I thank God for that.

Q: Where can people find you and follow you on social media?

I have different handles because my husband and I have a page together on Facebook called The Pastor and Princess. It’s like life in the day of Pastor and Princess, and we have a lot of posts on there.

For my personal page, especially with JournHE to the AltHER, my Instagram handle is JournHE2_Cindel.

Right now, I’m only on Instagram with that one.

I also have things I’m doing as a nurse practitioner. There’s @DrCindelYourDNPDiva; that’s another handle I have on Facebook, and a YouTube page for Cindel DNP.

I just feel like God has blessed me with so many attributes and so many hats that I’m wearing.
