Can you imagine going back to high school in your 20s and having classmates who are 16/17 years old? That’s what Nandipha Sithilanga did. She fell pregnant in Grade 10 and couldn’t proceed with her education at the time. Her son had special needs, so she spent the next few years focusing on getting him the care he needed.
Today I want us to talk about derailments, I think it’s quite fitting for the new year.
Many of us have taken time in recent days to write down what we would like to achieve this year, what opportunities we want to pursue and where we want to be by the end of the year. But what happens when one misstep takes you so far off track that you struggle to find your way back? And when you do, it seems like you are so far behind your peers. This must have been how Nandipha felt entering a Grade 11 classroom at the age of 22.
Many teased her but she was determined to get through high school. Not only did Nandipha complete her high school education, she went on to pursue higher education. It took her 9 years to complete a 4-year degree but she did it!
I hope her story reminds you that you can achieve anything you set your mind to with God’s help.
