DIY Vase

I was recently toying with the idea of making a flower vase and making cute little bouquets to put in the house. I wanted to use us materials I already had and just have a bit of a fun afternoon to myself. I came up with an idea, which would be easy enough and fun to do with kids.

Here are the materials I used:

  • Empty tin can
  • Masking tape
  • Watercolours
  • Paintbrush (I used a round Princeton Art & Brush Company one in size 8)

Directions:

Start to apply the masking tape horizontally. Cut the tape at the same spot after each round. I chose a line in the can as my guide.

Next, paint onto the masking tape. I chose colourful stripes. I did two layers of each colour. If you’re using watercolours, try not to have your brush too wet as the colour will bleed. Alternatively, you could use other paints such as acrylic paint for a more vibrant finish. Spray painting might be fun as well.

Set the can aside to dry then clean up the bottom metal of the can that’s still poking out. And that’s it. You now have a cute little vase. You could also use it as a brush holder, pen holder, etc.
