My Weight Loss Journey: Stick To The Plan, They’ll Get Used To It

With time, people started noticing some changes. I didn’t have to say anything about my weight loss plan because the results were noticeable.

Each time I ran into old friends, there were 3 statements I became accustomed to hearing them say:

  • “Shamiso, you have trimmed down nicely, you look beautiful. Keep this up!”

OR,

  • “How did you do this? What are you doing to get these results?”

OR,

  • “Don’t lose any more weight. You are now fine otherwise we won’t be able to recognize you.”

I realized that I was comfortable with the first two statements, but the last statement somehow dampened my spirit each time I heard it. When I started this weight loss journey, I had a goal and a plan. It had nothing to do with whether the new me would be acceptable to others or not.

If I had set my weight loss goal based on whether people would feel comfortable with the change or not, then their opinions would carry enough weight to stop me. But my goal and plan had nothing to do with them even though they were entitled to their own opinions. My reaction was simple; I did not stop. I stuck to the plan and kept going.

I know change is not always welcome, but the fact is with time, that change will become the new normal. Pay no mind when people tell you they are not used to your change, or when they tell you to stop working towards your goal. Stick to your plan, and make sure you keep pushing until you reach the goal YOU set.
