By Dec. 31, 2016, I was just a few hours away from starting my plan but felt something was missing. A part of me was excited, but another part of me was skeptical. Could I really do this? I started wondering whether this would be a waste of time – maybe I’d fail again.
While battling these thoughts, I decided to refresh my Facebook page and came across what I believed was missing – a friend.
Jane had just posted a picture of herself, celebrating her weight loss progress. The moment I came across her post was the moment I realized I needed a friend by my side to help me along this journey. She was the perfect person to partner with. Not only was she my friend, she had gone through what I was about to begin.
I sent her a message asking for tips – nothing more, but she responded offering to be my mentor through the process.
Jane told me that it would be difficult and I would feel like giving up some days, but that once I began to see results, I’d be addicted. She was also very transparent about her own struggle.
“The day I started everyone laughed at me and told me I wasn’t going to succeed,” she said. “It was hard because I did not know who to talk to…but if I could do it alone, you can, too – especially with the help of a friend.”
If only every woman were like that – willing to lift others up and be there for another woman in need – this would certainly be a better world.
At the same time, there was no way I would have known Jane was willing to help me if I hadn’t reached out for help.
Don’t be afraid to get help or ask for guidance from experienced people. They will make your journey much easier.
